Commission Responsibilities
The Civil Service Commission is voluntary commission made up of local residents committed to providing a fair and equitable work environment for all first responders employed with the City of Sunnyside. The Civil Service Commission creates and enacts policy specific to law enforcement and Fire Department positions for the purpose of ensuring safety, accountability and equality in the work environment, benefits and services offered to these employees.
For Washington's cities and towns, civil service is established for firefighters by Chapter 41.08 RCW and Chapter 2.28 of the Sunnyside Municipal Code and by Chapter 41.12 RCW and Chapter 2.20.060 of the Sunnyside Municipal Code for police.
