News Item: City Received Clean Audits from the State Auditor’s Office

The City of Sunnyside is pleased to announce that the City completed the audits of 2021 and 2022 Financial Statements and Accountability by the Washington State Auditor’s Office (SAO). Following SAO review, they concluded that there were no findings of misstatements or lack of financial controls, and that the City’s financial program shows no management override or indications that internal controls were circumvented.
The Auditors reviewed and audited the City’s financial programs and reporting, internal controls and operations, and compliance requirements of Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations. This result comes following the unsubstantiated complaints from residents of financial impropriety. While City staff has maintained that there was no improper use of funds during this period, we are pleased to report that the State Auditor’s Office was able to confirm that the City’s finances and reports showed no indication of misappropriation.
The SAO thanked Administrative Services Director Jamison Horner for her open communication throughout the audit as well as her assistance and professionalism.
