SUBJECT: City of Sunnyside Receives Nearly $1.3 Million in State Capital Budget Funding for Key Community Projects
The City of Sunnyside welcomes the news that the Washington State Legislature has approved the 2025–2027 Capital Budget, which includes nearly $1.3 million in funding for key infrastructure and recreational projects in our community. The budget now heads to the Governor’s desk for signature.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of many, these important investments will support the following projects:
- Downtown Centennial Square Rebuild $257,000
- Municipal Pool Infrastructure Repairs $515,000
- Tina Knoth Park Soccer Field Development $515,000
These projects will enhance public spaces, improve quality of life for residents, and strengthen Sunnyside’s community infrastructure for years to come.
The City of Sunnyside extends its deepest gratitude to Representative Gloria Mendoza (14th District) for her advocacy on behalf of our community. We also sincerely thank Representative Debra Manjarrez (14th District), Senator Nikki Torres (15th District), Senator Curtis King (14th District), and Representative Jeremie Dufault (15th District) for championing Sunnyside’s priorities in Olympia.
A special thank you also goes to Culton Consulting for their skilled assistance in our lobbying efforts. Their partnership played a vital role in helping us navigate the legislative process.
We also recognize and thank City Manager Mike Gonzalez and Deputy Mayor Jorge Galvan, Councilors Keren J. Vazquez and Vicky Frausto of the Sunnyside City Council who traveled to Olympia to advocate for these projects on behalf of our community. Their active engagement made a significant impact.
“This is a wonderful accomplishment! The Councilors worked extremely hard to make this happen. We are incredibly grateful to the legislative delegation. This will have an incredible impact in our community and I’m so proud of our efforts,” said, City Manager Mike Gonzalez.
