Subject: City of Sunnyside Hires Kelly Koskie as Administrative Services Director Koskie Brings Strong Ties to Sunnyside and Over 20 Years of Government Finance Experience

The City of Sunnyside is pleased to announce the hiring of Kelly Koskie as its new Administrative Services Director, effective Monday, April 14, 2025.

Koskie succeeds Deputy City Manager Debbie Zabell, who retired early. With more than two decades of experience in governmental accounting, most recently serving as Finance Director for the City of Cortez, Colorado, for the past four years. Throughout her career, she has successfully led finance teams through both challenging times and periods of growth.

“Debbie did a great job for us, and we were disappointed she decided to leave earlier than expected. However, I feel like we found a unicorn in Kelly because of her ties to Sunnyside, and the level of expertise we are getting. The most important thing is Kelly wants to be here and see Sunnyside become a better place to work, live and play,” said City Manager Mike Gonzalez.

Originally from Colorado, Koskie was raised on her family’s ranch as part of the fourth generation. After earning her degree, she moved to Sunnyside, where she served as Finance Director for the Sunnyside Housing Authority from 1999 to 2009. She later held the same role at the Yakima Housing Authority from 2009 to 2014.

“It is my honor and a pleasure to again serve the people and community I love,” said Koskie.

City Manager Mike Gonzalez praised the appointment, highlighting Koskie’s local experience and longstanding connection to the area. “Kelly has incredible ties to Sunnyside. Her knowledge of the city and the Valley are going to be invaluable to the residents of our community. She brings a wealth of experience that will help us take the city in the direction we need,” said Gonzalez.

In her new role, Koskie will oversee and coordinate the city’s accounting and finance operations, municipal court administration, and human resources functions.

Koskie’s daughter resides in the Tri-Cities, and she is looking forward to rejoining the community. She was officially introduced at the Sunnyside City Council meeting on Monday, April 14, 2025.
