CITY OF SUNNYSIDE ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF INTERIM CITY MANAGER
SUNNYSIDE, WA — The City of Sunnyside is pleased to announce that the City Council has appointed J. Patrick "Pat" Haley as Interim City Manager. Mr. Haley will officially begin his service to the City on Monday, March 16, 2026.
Mr. Haley is a seasoned executive with strong written and verbal communication skills and a reputation for building effective relationships with staff, the public, elected officials, and business and community leaders.
Most recently, Mr. Haley served as City Administrator for the City of Quincy, Washington, a position he held for over seven years. Prior to that role, he served for ten years as Executive Director of the Port of Douglas County in East Wenatchee, Washington. His breadth of public-sector leadership also includes six years as a Project Engineer with the Chelan County Public Utility District #1.
Throughout his career, Mr. Haley has demonstrated a consistent record of results for the communities he has served. Notable achievements include leading the effort to pass a voter proposition for the creation of a Metropolitan Parks District to provide funding for a $20 million indoor turf fieldhouse and multiple court facility, facilitating the recruitment of a $150 million data center that provided 50 new jobs and generated record sales tax revenues for Douglas County, and chairing a $75 million successful capital bond campaign for building improvements in a local school district.
Mr. Haley holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Washington State University and a Public Executive Certification from the UW Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs.

CITY OF SUNNYSIDE COUNCIL REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO OPEN AND TRANSPARENT GOVERNANCE
Sunnyside, WA — The City of Sunnyside wishes to clarify and reaffirm that the Sunnyside City Council is authorized to take official action only through open public meetings, consistent with the requirements of Washington State's Open Public Meetings Act (RCW Chapter 42.30). All decisions made by the Council are, and will continue to be, made transparently and in accordance with applicable law.
To date, the only official action taken by the Council with respect to the City Manager position has been the appointment of an Interim City Manager. This appointment was made through a properly noticed and conducted open public meeting, as required by law.
The Council has not taken any action regarding the appointment of a permanent City Manager. Any representations, discussions, or communications to the contrary do not reflect any official decision or commitment of the City of Sunnyside.
