Dear Sunnyside Community,
Monday evening, we took an important step forward by presenting a balanced budget for 2025. This achievement marks the culmination of difficult decisions made to address the $3 million deficit inherited from prior administrations. While the journey has been challenging, it has also been a testament to the resilience and strength of our community.
The closure of the pool and community center, along with staff layoffs, were not decisions we made lightly. These are spaces and people who bring vibrancy to Sunnyside, and we share in the collective hope of reopening these facilities in the near future. These necessary measures, while painful, reflect our commitment to restoring financial stability and paving the way for a brighter future.
Our agricultural heritage and ties to the dairy industry have always been rooted in hard work, resilience, and optimism. It is this same spirit that drives us as we tighten our belts, establish new policies and processes, and look ahead with both determination and faith.
As we step into 2025, we do so with positivity, possibility, and a prayer for prosperity. Together, we can rebuild, innovate, and ensure a brighter tomorrow for every resident of Sunnyside. Thank you for your continued support, trust, and partnership as we navigate this path forward.
In the coming days I will have more information on the direction we are heading, and the plans we are formulating for the 2025 budget. I am true believer in honesty, transparency and doing what is best for the residents who make Sunnyside an incredible place to live. If you have any questions for me, I encourage you to call, email, or visit me at City Hall. I believe we are heading in the right direction. 2025 is going to be a year of strategic planning, establishing our guiding principles, and making sure we earn the trust of the people we serve.
With gratitude and hope,
Mike Gonzalez
