On 05/27/2024 at 1844 hours a 21-year-old male was shot and killed in the 900 block of S. 13th Street when the Suspect Marques Cardenas 20 years old of Outlook, pulled in front of his vehicle cutting him off and shooting at him. Reports state that Cardenas was throwing gang signs at the victim just prior to the incident.

Cardenas fled the scene and crashed his car. He then fled on foot and was able to avoid capture at that time. Quickly after the shooting the Sunnyside Police Department had identified Cardenas as the suspect and began looking for him.
The Sunnyside Police Department, with the help of the public, were able to apprehend Cardenas after a short foot pursuit at 2322 on 5/27.

The Sunnyside Police Department is thankful for the active participation and help from our community. It was because of our work together we were able to quickly apprehend this suspect and place him under arrest.

El 27/05/2024 a las 18.44 horas un joven de 21 años fue asesinado a tiros en la cuadra 900 de la calle S. 13 cuando el sospechoso Marqués Cárdenas de 20 años de Outlook, se detuvo frente a su vehículo cortándole el paso y disparándole. Los informes indican que Cárdenas estaba arrojando signos de pandillas a la víctima justo antes del incidente.

Cárdenas huyó del lugar y chocó su auto. Luego huyó a pie y pudo evitar ser capturado en ese momento. Poco después del tiroteo, el Departamento de Policía de Sunnyside identificó a Cárdenas como el sospechoso y comenzó a buscarlo.
El Departamento de Policía de Sunnyside, con la ayuda del público, pudo detener a Cárdenas después de una breve persecución a pie en 2322 el 27 de mayo.
