Deputy Mayor Dean Broersma
Biography
Deputy Mayor Broersma was appointed to the Sunnyside City Council on March 25, 2013 to fill an unexpired term and was elected to the City Council in November 2013.  On January 11, 2016, he was chosen by his peers to serve as Deputy Mayor for a two year term. His current term (Position 2) expires December 31, 2017.

Deputy Mayor Broersma has lived in the lower valley since 1974 and graduated from Sunnyside Christian School and Granger High School.  In 1986 he graduated from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa with a degree in Secondary Education.

Deputy Mayor Broersma taught Spanish in Michigan before returning to Sunnyside in 1989.  In 1990, he then began the Spanish program at Sunnyside Christian High School through 1997.

Deputy Mayor Broersma has served with Christian Reformed World Missions and on the Board of Directors of Colegios Cristianos Reformados (Cocref) in the Dominican Republic from 1997 to 2003.  In 2003, he returned to Sunnyside. 

Currently, Deputy Mayor Broersma owns a small business and is married with four children.

Deputy Mayor Broersma has served as a council member at Sunnyside Christian Reformed Church and as a board member at Sunnyside Christian School.
